My Driver’s License is Suspended or Revoked.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

  • Visit your local Secretary of State office and ask for a Driving Abstract
  • Call the Secretary of State at (800)252-8980 to check the status of your license
  • Contact Hall & Rustom L.L.C. as soon as possible

WHAT YOU SHOULD NOT DO:

  • Operate a motor vehicle while your driver’s license is suspended.
  • Attempt to obtain a Driver’s License from a different state.

You may think Driving While License Suspended or Revoked (D.W.L.S./R.) is a minor offense but it is NOT. It is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by up to 364 days in jail and a $2,500 fine. A conviction for this offense can also lengthen the suspension period. For example, if you are suspended for 1 year and you receive a conviction for driving while license suspended/revoked, your suspension/revocation period will be lengthened to 2 years.

It is up to you to know the status of your license at all times. No one has to tell you when your license is suspended. Moreover, the police can drive alongside you, run your plates and determine if the registered owner of the vehicle is suspended. Once that is determined, they can look at you to see if you fit the description of the registered owner. After, they can pull you over without requiring any evidence of you committing a traffic or criminal violation.

If you are suspended or revoked and have questions concerning your driving record and possible reinstatement, contact us.
